Sing it, Johnny Cash:

On a Monday, I was arrested, uh, huh On a Tuesday, they locked me in the jail, poor boy On a Wednesday, my trial was attested On a Thursday, they said, guilty and the judge's gavel fell

I got stripes, stripes around my shoulders I got chains, chains around my feet I got stripes, stripes around my shoulders And them chains them chains they're about to drag me down

You gotta dig some Cash on a Friday, people.

  • I love music.  Gosh, I do.
  • I get a little bit irritated that I love it so much and yet, have absolutely NO musical talents like singing or playing an instrument.
  • Hey, get rhythm when you get the blues.  Come on, get rhythm. When you get the blues.  I definitely have that when it comes to dancing.
  • I also think I could potentially play one mean tambourine. {insert Irlene Mandrell here.}
  • Don't you love Johnny Cash?  The man struggled.  Laid smack down on hard times.  And then found his sweet June.  Their story, as well as his, was no where near perfect or arrow straight.  But God grew up out of both Johnny & June.  And the world began to know a little more about Him the more they let their light shine.
  • Johnny wasn't fake.  He wasn't pretentious. He was common.  Equally for you & equally for me.
  • I wanna be a little more like Mr. Cash.
  • Yesterday's Cheap Thrills Thursday outfit received great reviews!
  • But in my deepest Johnny Cash voice, "I don't look like that everyday."
  • You want honest?  I am common.
  • Just yesterday at Casey's soccer practice, I had a fellow mom ask me what make up I used because... "when you wear it, You look TOTALLY DIFFERENT!"
  • That's the reason for this 4th installment today in the #kmaccardiparty. {#1, #2, #3 can be found here}
  • This is me.  No make up.  Rattle trap hair.  And on the way to the public library with my boys.
  • I'm also re-wearing these pants unwashed AGAIN tonight to Kenny's ball game.

  • I love patterns.  The more on my person, the happier I am.
  • I am quirky.
  • And silly
  • And sad sometimes too.
  • I believe we all need a little more transparency and a lot more laughter.
  • We need more Johnny & Junes.
  • More helpers.  More helping.

And this was my inspiration for my October's 31 day celebration.  With my two hands I wanted to scoop up a handful of humans and I wanted to scatter them all out here to share their grit & their beauty.

Behind these gathered faces are stories.  Ones that need to be told, better yet heard.  They are just a sampling of my collected broken glass pieces. By no means my whole. Some are more jagged than others.  Some more colorful or perhaps more jaded too. But their stories sit with me. They remind me of real.  Their heartbeats move me a little stronger in my stride.  And with their pieces, I create.  I fumble with their broken and their magnificent both tactfully and kind.  With great respect, I learn from them.  I lean too.  My mosaic is created out of broken and jaded and color just the same.  From the pieces I touch daily just as much as the ones I touch every now & again.  These people do not fall into one category of best.  They are simply a collection of my everyday through life, social media, family and memories.  And I am so honored they have chosen to press letters for me.

This October each of us will bring you a gift. This gift will be in the form of a single word. Unwrap it anytime you like, but each day in October you will find a new gift here in this space. It is my hope that you will receive the expressions of these souls with equal parts laughter & light.  Hope moves through stories.  Ones told on front porch swings just as much as ones shared in this newer way we operate as social beings.  It is my intent that this month's celebration will remind us all the power that lies in the telling.

And these chains these chains...They CANNOT drag me down.

Yes, words are most definitely worth it.
