the overshare
This internetty world where the collective thrive on sharing. With pecked-pressed status updates we allow high school alumnus {ones we haven't seen or heard from in 20+ years} in on our personal late night jaunts to the kitchen for three bowls of cereal washed down with the leftover handle of OJ. We share with them our people and our plans. Our stance on religion. On marriage. On whether or not breastfeeding is right and how exactly is it that one dress can take on 2 totally different color schemes just the same.
And, if you're a blogger, you hope for traffic. You consider your content. Let's not leave out the blessed fact that our index finger can conjure up Google Analytics like it was speed dial from your parents' landline circa 1988.
It's the overshare. The surplus of information most freely handed over and not so much certainly needed for oh shall we say life's survival.
So why? Why is it that we share FREAKISH AMOUNTS OF SENSELESS PAIRED WITH SOME REALLY GREAT STUFF EVERY NOW AND AGAIN?
- COMMUNITY-- We are humans. Completely flawed and boisterously capable of spreading equal parts evil and hope. The choice is ours. I believe God hardwired us to share Him.
- CONFIDENCE--You are either handing it out or receiving it with each thumb slide of your screen equally as much with each tap-press of your tiny buttons, too. Some choose to boast. Some choose to build up.
- CANDIDNESS--It feels good to air out silly or bounce blunders into a space that has no true physical existence. Poking fun is cathartic and dang funny sometimes.
- CHARACTER--It's a platform to showcase YOU. In the light so oftentimes you so vigilantly hope people see when they do, in fact, meet and know you face-to-face. The overshare is also one ridiculous indicator of one's true colors. Yes, the litmus test of the who-you-are truth.
So why do I? Why is that you see me, read me, hear from me like you do?
COMMUNITY-- I am human. Completely flawed and boisterously capable of spreading equal parts evil and hope. The choice is mine. I believe God hardwired me to share Him. And I know a little girl that needs as much support as my little cyber space can muster. I am honored to use this place for her.
CONFIDENCE--I share to be more in the skin that God asks me to be. And my place in this world of cyber words brings me to center more times than I can count. Through my darkness and in my best light. I hope it inspires others to do just the same.
CANDIDNESS--I rarely shave my legs. It seems my time eradicating hairs is best spent on my chin as of late. In this particular post, my legs AND chin are sans hair. It calls for a publish, y'all.
CHARACTER--Me. I grow and get better. I back slide into worse, too. My journey to keep hope an action verb in my life is one worth sharing. It's the litmus test of my best me. Naked. Thrifty. And real.
